Andrew started his career in the insurance industry, where he qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute but soon discovered that Risk Management offered a greater range of interest and challenges.

He became a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management (by examination) in 1980 and has served as the Governor responsible for training, lead of the Health Sector Special Interest Group, and as Senior Vice Chairman.

The day job has been with two leading-edge consultancies, firstly as a consultant and then as Director of Operations, and with two major multinational conglomerates before ten years with the NHS as an active risk manager.

Work with the NHS has included involvement with the Department of Health in design of their Risk Management Manual and various governance standards.

Throughout his career, Andrew has been a trainer and holds a City & Guilds certificate to demonstrate his qualification and competence.

Risk managers are often used by staff and managers for informal counselling and coaching, and Andrew is no exception. That is why he studied for and acquired a Diploma in Performance Coaching to ensure that he could continue to apply a professional approach.

Stuart Emslie, former Head of Controls Assurance at the Department of Health, said of Andrew “I regard Andrew, in the nicest possible way, as an ‘elder statesman’ of governance and risk management. He is sound, solid and dependable”.

At the conclusion of a training course, a director of the South Bank Centre pronounced herself "inspired!"
