WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT? Management of Risk and Uncertainty is a two-day, classroom based risk management training course which provides a solid introduction to the broad-based concept of risk management, using the Risk Management Standard as the model. It raises awareness of the risk management process and its place within the overall corporate governance framework of an organisation.

The course covers identification and management, upside and downside risk and explains the main tools and techniques used in the successful assessment and treatment of risk. Session 1 – Risk Management and Corporate Governance Introduced

  • Emergence of risk management in the UK;
  • The consequences of failing to manage risk;
  • Internal and external drivers; and
  • The risk management process
Session 2 – Risk Assessment, Analysis and Evaluation
  • The methods available for the assessment of risk; and
  • Three common risk assessment techniques
  • Risk perception
Session 3 – Risk Treatment – Risk Control
  • The concept of acceptable risk;
  • Risk control measures; and
  • Business continuity planning and guidance
Session 4 – Risk Treatment – Risk Financing
  • Risk financing, including total cost of risk; and
  • Risk financing techniques: transfer, retention and insurance
Session 5 – Corporate Governance, Reporting, Monitoring, Embedding
  • Corporate governance codes, including Turnbull;
  • The Combined Code, including reporting requirements;
  • Communication, monitoring and review; and
  • Embedding a culture of risk management
